"A Little Bit Lonely" - I saw Julie perform this track on The Late Show with Craig Ferguson. She is descended from that long line of female singer-songwriters who bring elements of rock, pop and country music and infuse them with memorable hooks, unique vocal phrasing and lyrics devoid of cliche. The follow-up to her album, So Typical, is currently being recorded in LA
"Some Days" - In many ways, Lauren Echo - currently based in North Carolina - is the reason that 67 Records exists. She is our archetypical artist. She is immensely talented. Her songs are sexy, sultry and overflowing. Her brand of adult pop infused with jazz is anything but predictable. We ask ourselves, "why would a major record label pass up the opportunity to be affiliated with someone with such obvious skills?" She has it all. By the way, "Some Days" is one of my favorite songs ever written - and the performance is so powerful, it is haunting. You can purchase her album "Still" for $12.99 plus $2 shipping by clicking the buy now button.
"Garden of Temptation" - Wendy Starland has already found great success as a singer-songwriter. This track has appeared on several television shows, including NBC's Las Vegas and was actually featured on NBC's website. A new track by Wendy, Dancing on the Sea, is being featured on a Universal Music compilation. She recently shot videos for both tracks. We expect Wendy's stay with 67 to be short lived - she will not remain "unsigned" for very long. "Garden of Temptation" oozes sexuality - as does Wendy herself. Her talents are limitless. We only ask her not to forget us.
"Come Undone" - A great Connecticut rock band that I've been fortunate to see live nearly a dozen times. They are truly one of my favorite rock and roll bands. 67 Records is proud to present The Mercury Seed. This is a band that plays with a power that few bands can summon. Recently they opened for Bon Jovi in Connecticut and their follow up record to their previously released Dust is currently wrapping up post-production. I'm looking forward to hearing it.
"Regret" - Manic, Funny, Provocative. Oh and you can dance to it. This punk-pop band from New Jersey contributes one of the catchiest tracks on the compilation reminding us that "you can't regret what you don't remember." The track, taken from Case of the Mondays debut EP, "Swimmin' with Plus Size Women" reminds us that we don't have to always take ourselves too seriously.
"Wishin' on Fireflies" - Eddie Cunningham is a professional. Among his many honors include winning the John Lennon Songwriting and Billboard songwriting contests (Country Song) for his "Bad Cowboy." In 2000 Eddie was named the best unsigned artist in America. He current plays in a band called the Hillbilly Truckers. "Wishin' on Fireflies" is an expertly written song about falling in love with your best friend only to find out your best friend is not in love with you.
"She's A Star" - This is a New York band whose sound soars higher than the city's skyline. Rich melodies interweave with roaring guitars to create an intense wall of sound. Cityzen.TV reviewed a DK live show where "melodies dripped out of the air like ghosts, changing and turning back around on themselves, so that as soon as you thought you'd heard them they were already gone."
"I'm Dying" - Jeff is a singer songwriter based in LA who caught our attention with this track. "I'm Dying" is a not only a throwback to the pop music of the 60's, including the great pop from Motown, it is a masterpiece. I never expected to hear this level of greatness in pop music anymore. I'm grateful to Jeff Sammon.
"That's OK" - Julie is the quintessential ballsy chick rockin' hard country gal who takes no crap from nobody and "That's Ok" is the quintessential ballsy chick rockin' take no crap from nobody hard country song. Everybody loves this song. You will too when you take a listen. You can buy her record, "What I Think" for $9.99 plus $2 shipping by clicking below.
"Money Can't Save You Now" - Stereopool is a Maryland 3-piece whose album "Freedom Finds You" was originally released on Lime Green Records. Bob Sima's songwriting is incisive and his vocals are delivered with strength and resonance. This track initially struck me with its powerful hook - a reminder to do things not for the money but for the love. That's why 67 Records exists - because of our love for great music and our desire to get you to hear it.
"Old Woman" - Phyllis is a multi-award winning Carolina songwriterm winning awards such as the Woody Guthrie Festival Songwriting Award, Suwanee Springfest Songwriting Award, Mountain Valley Arts Festival Songwriting Award, and the Great American Song Contest. "Old Woman" is very simply, a great song and indicative of Phyllis' amazing songwriting talent.
"I Can't Think Straight" - Some folks like to call this punk and some folks like to call it power pop or punk-pop. I don't know what to call it but one thing I know for sure, this brother/sister combo from Pittsburgh ain't no Donny and Marie. They rock. In fact they are currently rockin on the Warped Tour and selling thousands of records. "I can't think straight" is aptly titled because after a few spins, you will be dizzy and you won't be able to get it out of your head. You can buy "Hope on the Horizon", Sunset's new record for $10 plus $2 shipping by clicking below.
"Hologram" - This track is simply fun but also insidious and provocative. I realize that there are contradictions in these descriptions and that's why Randy and the Bloody Lovelies are such a great fit for 67 Records. "Grab a gun, I'm in love again"
"Something Now" - This is great contemporary rock and roll music by a young west coast band. They describe themselves as "That Thing You Do" meets "Detroit Rock City" - "Something Now" is a great track which provides that rock and roll sense of urgency with a truly memorable hook.
SALME DAHLSTROM - "Hello California" - Salme is a successful singer-songwriter from Sweden whose songs have been licensed songs for such diverse projects as Quiznos, MTV's Laguna Beach, the WB's Veronica Mars, Vodafone UK and others including my personal favorite, Miller Beer. Many of us aspire to the levels of success that she's already reached including her previous band's (aboyandagirl) record deal with Rufflife/Warner. We are happy to have her track, "Hello California", a quirky electronica/dance track that has kept me groovin' since the first time I heard it.
